End of Term One Weekend Camp at Whakanewha

Kia ora Waiheke Sea Scouts and whanau

After the success of our Motuihe trip, we’ve decided the next camp will be a weekend camp on Waiheke.

We will hold this at the end of term one (weekend before Easter) at Whakanewha camp ground as follows:

When:

Friday 31st March from 3pm – Sunday 2nd April ~ 11am (you can stay as long as you wish!)

Where:

Whakanewha Regional Park – Poukaraka Flats Campground.

What:

Camping, field games, volleyball, water activities, socialising and fun.

Who:

Scouts and families including siblings, extended family and all friends welcome! Be mindful we are sharing this campground, so there will be limits on total campers. Please let friends and siblings know that this is a Scout camp, so there will be some Scouting games planned (eg. Tug-o-war etc).

How:

3) Make your own way there and back (feel free to car share)

4) Bring your own tent / sleeping gear / water toys etc

5) BYO food and drinks – To keep things simple, we request you bring your own food for breakfast / lunch / snacks etc – see below shared plan

Food / Catering:

Friday Evening: Bring a Plate / Pot Luck Dinner: for a shared dinner on Friday (e.g. pot of pasta, curry, pizza, big salad, sausage rolls etc…. and BYO items for special diets etc)

Saturday Evening: shared sausage sizzle / burgers / with salad (Meat / Veggie, Vegan and Gluten Free options available). Contribution cost of $5 ~ $10 each person MAKE A PAYMENT here or bring cash and give to Sol. Or just BYO if you prefer (just let us know on the Intention form above).

Friday and Saturday dinner will be collaborative but otherwise we will not provide any kitchen or cooking facility. There are public BBQs if you would like to use them.

A mess tent with limited seating at tables, for shelter and share will be provided (and we’ll ask for volunteers to help set that up on the day).

Activities:

We plan on holding field games, ball games etc and lots of free play. Some scouts are planning to be sleeping out.

There will be some water activities: High tide at around 3.30 pm on Friday and Saturday – perfect for kayaking, SUP, sailing, swimming, etc (for Weather permitting).

Please bring your own water toys (and please share with others where possible).

Cost:

1) No cost for joining the camp – All welcome

2) Pay your own camping fee see link above – places may be limited – so please book soon.

3) If joining the Saturday Evening Buffet: $5 – $10 per person to cover the cost MAKE A PAYMENT here or bring cash and give to Sol

Campground Safety

This is a public campground. Parents / Guardians will supervise their children and youth under 16 years old, including providing first-aid supplies.

Water Safety

Bring your own life jacket and water clothes. All children must be actively supervised by parents / guardians. There is no lifeguard on duty.

We will communicate more with confirmed attendees in the coming weeks (especially in regards to weather – there will be no rain date)
